7.05 - Pilates and the Pick-up Artist
The last panel is pretty crowded visually for what should be a simple punchline. I'm still not sure if either sign needs to be there, hence the washed-out colours. Trying to do any sort of visual arrangement makes me appreciate Spy vs. Spy, which, although it takes me several readings to "get", still has a joke that works flawlessly and "punchily".

Sometimes sub-jokes occur to me as I'm drawing the comic. I originally had a longer set-up with two pick-ups lines, but I found it inordinately amusing that Pilates would have ONLY ONE punchline but still number it.

6.03 Political Suicide

This isn't even political commentary. It was drawn probably six months before the media even started talking about the Canadian election. Funny enough, the "finance" angle of the comic fits Harper's corruption just as well the "infant" angle fits the attack ads targeting Trudeau's inexperience.

It's just a pun, though. There's no reason why Newton has to be a politician here, come to think of it.

Vast mental effort was expended attempting to find an ambiguous phrasing for the two "bust" verbs.

The intransitive verb, which is used when someone scores higher than 21 in blackjack, can't have a grammatical object. ("If you have 23, you bust!")

The transitive verb, which is used when people arrest and seize control of a drug operation, *requires* an object. ("They busted him!" or "he got busted!")

This line of thinking failed to produce anything longer than the one-word sentence "Bust.", as you can see in panel 3.

Glad you're back too!  I voted on your poll and will try to comment on some of your stuff later... I'm severely Internet-limited & have been relying on public wifi for months, but I'm trying to keep up with everyone.
